Hey there health seeker,
One of the main components of true health is, of course, nutrition. It’s about learning what whole foods are and how to use food as nourishment, rather than just filling an empty belly. The biggest hurdle I find my clients dealing with is making a whole lifestyle change. It’s a big change, and it can be scary. But when you start with making small subtle changes, you will start to feel the amazing rewards. This will inspire you make more small changes. To be truly healthy is not just about drinking kale smoothies and munching on quinoa salads. Your attitude, how much you move, how you sleep, your stress levels, your relationships, it all plays an intricate part.
The first step to this lifestyle is developing a healthy relationship with food and your cooking environment, your kitchen. When we start to look at food as an amazing source of nourishment and a blessing, we change our relationship with food dramatically. It has the ability to heal, bring comfort, awaken the senses and provide pleasure. Your cooking environment is just as important. You want it to be a place that is inviting and motivating.
As you begin to move toward a healthier lifestyle, it’s important to make some adjustments in your kitchen to bring in a fresh start. It takes time to do a whole healthy makeover in the kitchen. To help you get started, here is my list of healthy essentials that I usually hand out to new nutrition clients. Have a look at these pages before you stock your kitchen and print out the pantry list before your next shopping trip. You don’t have to buy everything on the list, just use it as your go to guide and when you run out of something, check out the list for the healthiest choice. When you have healthy choices at hand, you will inevitably live a healthier life!
Here is how to bring in some positive energy into your kitchen my friend:
How to fall in love with your kitchen:
1. Give it a spring cleaning Throw out those old flavourless spices, clean out the pantry, wipe down the cupboard doors and organize your drawers. Try to use glass jars instead of plastic and label everything. It’s important to have a fresh and clean space where you feel creative and motivated.
2. Organize the fridge and freezer Is there something lurking in the back of your fridge or freezer that you have maybe forgotten about? Out it goes!! To stay organized in a healthy kitchen, you want to label and freeze leftovers and do some fresh veggie prep when you go grocery shopping. For this to happen, we first need a clean slate.
3. Add in some healthy alternatives Make the switch and ditch the refined sugar for raw honey or coconut sugar, refined flour for some whole grains and gluten-free varieties, and unhealthy oils for coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil and flax oil. 4. Make it appealing Add some personality and life to your kitchen! Fresh flowers, herb plants, pictures of loved ones, beeswax candles and some inspiring wall art are great ways to start. Maybe you need some colourful new plates and cute mugs to brighten up the place as well!!
To your happy kitchen and all the wonderful healing meals that will come from there!!
