.
Our increasingly toxic environment can leave our bodies overburdened and the major detox pathways (liver, digestion, skin, etc.) become compromised or inefficient.
.
The resulting poor digestion, colon sluggishness and dysfunction, reduced liver function, and poor elimination through the kidneys, respiratory tract, and skin all add to increased toxicity.
.
Toxicity can contribute to symptoms like fatigue, inflammation, hormonal imbalances (PMS, hot flashes, insulin resistance, etc.) skin rashes, brain fog, and chronic headaches. Over time, toxic overload can lead to increased food & environmental allergies, chronic illness, such as autoimmune diseases, Alzheimer’s disease and cancer.
.
Supporting your body’s natural detox process can help you feel energized and balanced again!
Here are some detox superfoods you can add to your diet to help your body eliminate harmful toxins:
.
- Pear is used as a lung supportive food in Traditional Chinese Medicine, helping to clear the lungs of excess mucus, detoxify, and relieve cough. Pear also contains vitamin C and a type of fibre called pectin. Pectin has the ability to help detoxify the body and improve the intestinal muscle’s ability to push waste through the gastrointestinal tract and helps to eliminate heavy metals from the system.
- Turmeric can help to elevate important liver enzymes (UDP glucuronyltransferase and glutathione-S-transferase), helping to enhance detoxification. Turmeric also provides protection against oxidative damage to brain cells that can lead to Alzheimer’s disease.
- The fresh root of ginger contains enzymes which enhance digestion, neutralizes toxins in the digestive system and aids in overall circulation.
- Functional mushrooms like oyster, chaga, tremella, lion’s mane, shiitake, and maitake mushroom extracts contain powerful antioxidants – compounds that can protect against or reverse damage to your cells, helping with premature aging and inflammation
