I have worked with Lisa both professionally and personally over the past two years and I’m so excited to introduce her to you and share how she has helped me as well as my clients through the beautiful practice of acupuncture. Lisa and I have put together a new 28 day program that combines the proven technique of auricular acupuncture and holistic nutrition for lasting benefits and results for stress management and weight release.
Q. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your business: What made you decide to follow the path as an acupuncturist?
A. Hello, my name is Lisa Greene, and I run my own business Greenetea Acupuncture. I am the mother of three beautiful young ladies, and have been with my husband and partner for over 30 years.
Acupuncture came to my attention in the early 90’s. At that time my brother in law had just been diagnosed with Aids. Aids had a very poor prognosis back then, and allopathic medicine had little to offer. Before 1995 Azt was the treatment of choice and the side effects were lengthy, and debilitating. The disease itself carried a stigma ensconced by fear. Patients health deteriorated as Azt became ineffective and their symptoms spiralled to unmanageable levels. Watching someone you love deal with this horrible disease made you feel powerless.
It was naturopathic medicine, that I first stumbled onto as a way to help with the symptoms, and alleviate some pain. This lead to further research into alternative medicine and my introduction into Acupuncture. Once I learned about the healing benefits from the needle I was hooked!
Sadly it was too late for my brother in law. We are fortunate in Canada to have a wonderful health care system. However, there are limitations to what allopathic medicine can provide. Acupuncture is a medicine in its own right and was developed to keep the Emperor of China Healthy. The original preventative Medicine. It is a powerful healing modality that can provide relief of pain, and enhance the quality of ones life.
Q. What is your go to healthy breakfast option?
A. First thing in the morning I usually start with warm lemon water and cinnamon. I love to be very simple first thing until I have my workout. After that I love ancient grains spelt toast with smashed avocado and poached egg its more like my brunch!
Q. What is one thing you do every day to implement your healthy lifestyle?
A. I love to work on my yoga routine. Last year I completed my 200 hr yoga teacher training, and I’m always working on my asanas. Yoga practice includes, stretches strength training and meditation.
Q. What is your favourite outcome that you see in your patients after working with you? In other words, what makes your heart sing as a health practitioner?
A. There is a technique I’ve learned over the years that is extremely effective with chronic or acute pain. Any pain anywhere. Not only is pain debilitating for the patient, but it can also cause depression and anxiety which often leads to resorting to prescription drugs.
I’ve had patients who have suffered migraines every day for 20 years. When we can knock that down to once a month or once every 6 months, I know I’ve significantly improved their quality of life. Their gratitude, and relief from their pain and symptoms, is what makes my heart sing.
Q. What is your favorite type acupuncture treatment and why?
A. One of the most heart warming treatments is working with my fertility patients. When after months or years of not conceiving, the patient comes for acupuncture and within weeks to months discovers she s pregnant.
Infertility is definitely on the rise, 1 in 8 couples in the US has a problem conceiving. The factors attributing to that are Stress, diet, poor ovarian reserve, PCOS, and environmental factors. Acupuncture addresses each of these issues. Usually when we deal with the underlying problem the patient is successfully able to conceive.
Q. What other types of treatments do you offer?
A. I enjoy facial cosmetic acupuncture. The patients love their results and have the treatment paid for by their health plan! Plus the side effects to cosmetic acupuncture are…better sleep, improved digestion, increased energy levels.
Hot cupping is another favourite of mine. Or Pt s like to call it myofascial decompression. It’s an effective way to ease your sore muscles and joints, it decreases the lactic acid in your blood, improves the circulation and pH balance of your blood, eliminates pain, and feels really good. Hot cupping is also great to eliminate coughs or colds in your body, very effective for children.
Moxibustion is used on my patients, as well as essential oil therapy.
Auricular acupuncture is used to help change patterns that would vastly improve lifestyle changes, such as weight loss and addictions.
Facial reading is another service I offer, as an add on to any service. Facial reading is quite fascinating and by understanding your features, you can help empower your future health.
Finally I also offer meditation guidelines, healthy yoga poses to assist with your healing.
Q. What is your typical process when meeting with patients? How many times do you meet?
A. The first appointment consists of a consultation and a treatment. I do a full health analysis, complete with a pulse reading and tongue diagnosis. The first appointment is 90 min long.
Thereafter each treatment is 60-75 min depending on the time of year, the condition and the age of the patient. Acute situations will take less time than chronic. If there is an injury I like to see the patient 2x per week for at least three weeks. Then we go from there, usually a course of treatments is 4-7 appointments. The number of treatments really depends on the condition, but they will definitely find improvements along the way.
Q. What is one misconception that you find your patients have about acupuncture treatments?
A. I think patients try acupuncture once then say, “I tried acupuncture once but it didn’t work”. There s two analogies I can give. One is the first time you take a prescription medicine, or herbal remedy you will not feel the significance the first time. Its a dosage of the medicine over time that works. That’s Acupuncture.
When you go to a gym to build up a bicep, the first time you go, you are laying down the foundation. Over time and being consistent you will get the results you want. Acupuncture works the same way.
Q. What are 3 signs that you need an acupuncturist, like yourself, in your life?
A. Well the Emperor of China employed the Chinese Sage, to keep him healthy to prevent disease. That’s the best way to use Acupuncture!
I recommend my patients to come seasonally, build up their immune system, especially in September when kids go back to school, the flu season starts and stress levels are high.
But otherwise big signs would be: trouble sleeping, poor digestion, mood changes (anger/weepy) acute trauma, sudden headaches, and development of rashes.
Q. What are 3 little known benefits of acupuncture treatments?
A. The best one is that it has amazing anti aging benefits. It slows down the clock! It creates resistance to disease, by building the immune system.
It can strengthen your resolve to transform and make positive changes in your life.
Q. What is the best way to get in contact with you to book an appointment?
The best way is via email, or text! If it is after hours or on the weekends I will contact the next business day!
